Five divisions: K-2, K-5, 6-12 (unrated), K-12 (rated), and Open (rated)

PALS tournaments are kid-friendly, tons of fun, and a great way to motivate your child to improve in chess while making new friends and learning valuable chess and life lessons.

We are excited to announce the addition of a USCF-rated Open section. Players of all ages and levels are welcome and encouraged to play in this division, including parents and grandparents for an intergenerational challenge!

In addition to the tournament games, participants may enjoy a giant outdoor chess set, a playground where children can play outside between rounds, and as always, trophies and medals for ALL. Every child leaves with an award and most importantly, a smile. See online registration form for more details.

AWESOME PRIZES!

PALS Chess Academy returns with a fantastic array of trophies or medals for ALL participants! These include large trophies for 1st-5th place and large medals for 6th-10th place. Unique prizes include the Chess Queen Trophies awarded to the girls who score the most points in each section, the David vs. Goliath trophy to the player in the youngest grade who scores the most points in each section.

In the Open section, 90% of the entry fee money will be paid out as prizes (PALS awards the highest prize fund in the entire state!)

LUNCH

The lunch break is between rounds 3 and 4 from around 11:30 (or whenever your child’s third round game ends) until 12:25, five minutes before the start of the fourth round. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, and players may also bring a packed lunch to the tournament.
