Job description
No need to be a chess expert to apply! We are hiring those who love working with kids and playing chess for both Assistant and Head Coaching positions. Perks of this job include free training with 15-time Colorado State Chess Champions, Sullivan and Griffin McConnell.
Are you looking for an exciting and meaningful part-time job teaching children in the Greater Denver Area? If you love working with kids and enjoy playing chess, you’ll have a wonderful time coaching with PALS Chess Academy! Enjoy a flexible schedule ranging from just one hour to five hours each week throughout the school year. Lesson plans and personal training are provided to all coaches. Our goal is to teach children critical thinking and life skills through chess.
Pay
$65 to $75 per class
Gas stipend for schools 10 miles or 30+ minute radius
Additional income through coaching at mini-chess camps during the school year
Bonus income during the summer through coaching at multiple summer camps in Denver and Colorado Springs (pay ranges from $750 to $1000 a week)
We will help you grow your own private lesson income (and we don’t take a cut!)
Opportunities for multiple school classes on the same day
One hour of paid Zoom meetings per month (discussing best practices, classroom management techniques and team bonding)
Opportunities for additional pay working at monthly scholastic chess tournaments, interacting with PALS students from across the front range

Coaching for an award-winning chess program
Chess Coaches are responsible for
- Being a positive role model for students and interacting with them in a fun and engaging manner
- Obtaining a background check at least two weeks before your first class
- Always being on time (at least 15 minutes early for each class)
- Learning and teaching our fun and interactive 20-minute lesson plans
- Supervising your class and actively engaging with students during game time
- Staying after class until all children are picked up
- Ensuring students’ safety and supervision at all times
- Timely communication with PALS Chess Academy staff through Slack, email, and phone calls
