GRIFFIN WON THE 2025 COLORADO CLOSED CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
SULLIVAN TIED FOR SECOND PLACE

The Colorado Closed Chess Championships are an invite-only state championship. The top 6 rated players in the state are invited to play in a round robin format where every player plays every other player and the top-scoring player wins the state title. This is, by its very nature, a much more difficult event to win than the other state championship, The Colorado Open. In the Colorado Open, the state champion must have the highest score in the premium section and the eventual state champion will play several games against “A” players and experts before playing against National Masters. In the Colorado Closed Chess Championships, the top 6 players are almost always National Masters or higher titles. Every round played would be against a National Master level player.

Sullivan tied for 2nd with a score of 3.5 out of 5. Griffin won with a score of 4 out of 5. Sullivan has won this state championship twice and now Griffin has won it!
